Finding The Best Sunless Tanning Lotion To Apply

By Haywood Hunter

You are not going to have a hard time getting your hands on a self tanner because there are so many options available on the current market. The only problem you may have is figuring out which UV-free tanning lotion brand or variant you should go for. Read on to know a few tips on finding the right product so you may end up with a lovely and realistic fake tan.

Before you begin the search for the perfect tanner, it's a good idea to learn how this kind of product is able to give you that sun-kissed glow even without exposing the skin to UV light. There are different lotions out there and each one of them relies on their own ingredients. Opting for a formulation suited for your needs is the key to a delightful indoor tanning life.

Some of the tanners out there only temporarily darken the skin. The color they leave behind is pretty much like the real deal although it can be erased quickly with water. The moment you sweat profusely or take a shower, you can expect for the golden-brown tinge to vanish. These items contain bronzing ingredients that immediately stain your skin upon application.

Going for such product is perfect if you want to look fantastic for only a day, such as when going to a wedding or a romantic dinner date. Commonly, the tanner is used only on parts of the body that your clothing does not conceal. If you want to bring back your skin's natural color, all you have to do is step foot in the shower to wash off the bronzer.

If a fake suntan that lasts for a full week is what you want, look for a UV-free tanner on the current market that contains a chemical called dihydroxyacetone or DHA. Derived from sugar cane, this chemical is capable of darkening the dead cells resting on the skin's topmost part. The resulting color won't fade even if you shower or engage in physical activities that make you sweat.

The golden-brown color produced vanishes gradually because the skin's uppermost part is exfoliated by your body on a regular basis. That is the only layer that DHA can darken as it cannot be absorbed any deeper than the coat of dead cells. Manufacturers of tanners containing DHA recommend the regular application of a moisturizer to extend the tan's lifespan.

You can come across self tanners that contain not only bronzers but also DHA. The bronzing ingredient is responsible for an instantaneous tan while DHA is the one that yields a deep hue that stays around for several days. This chemical takes about 3 hours to create a noticeable change. In the next 24 hours, you can expect the resulting color to intensify further.

Even if these UV-free tanners basically use the same set of ingredients, you can be sure that not all of them can impress. Opt for a brand that is being trusted by so many indoor tanning aficionados. It's also a good idea to go for a tan shade that is not too different from your own skin color for a realistic outcome.
